Building a Budget
After you've created your budget, you need to start making records of your actual income and expenses.

This information will help you to understand any "budget variances" - the difference between the amount you planned to spend in a certain category, and the amount you actually spent. Prepare to be surprised for the first couple of months. You may not need to track your spending indefinitely. Usually, a couple of months is all you need to get an idea of where your money is going.
